Nico Hulkenberg will replace Lance Stroll for the rest of the Grand Prix weekend at the Nürburgring, Racing Point confirms. At the start of the third free practice session, it was announced that Stroll wasn't fit enough to do the practice session, and now it appears that he will have to miss the rest of the race weekend as well.
For the third Grand Prix weekend in 2020, Hülkenberg will be seated in a 'pink Mercedes' seat, as he has already had to replace Sergio Perez twice at Silverstone. The Mexican was tested positive for the corona virus at the time. However, of these two raids, he only came into action once as he had to miss a race with technical problems.
The swap at the German circuit will be especially beneficial for The Hulk as it will be his home race. However, it will be a tough qualification for the driver: Hülkenberg will have to qualify at the Nürburgring without a free practice session.
Hülkenberg was already close to the Nürburgring.
"I was in Cologne to comment on the race for RTL", said the German, who quickly rushed to the track to be ready to replace Stroll. "Racing Point informed me this morning and I quickly went to the track to take a Corona test".
Team boss Otmar Szafnauer says he's relieved that Hulkenberg was nearby. "We were very lucky with that, he was close to the fans", says Racing Point's team boss. He also reveals that they take the driver into account every race: "We take his seat with us to every race!"
