Update | Hulkenberg arrived at the Nürburgring, possibly in action

By Dennis Schnitzler 10 October 2020 | 13:39

Lance Stroll called in sick for the third free practice session of the Eifel Grand Prix, Racing Point reported at the start of the session on Saturday afternoon. The driver will be given a medical check, after which it will be determined if he will qualify at the Nürburgring.

The team of the "pink Mercedes" has not yet appointed a replacement for Stroll. So only Sergio Perez will be in action during the first and last practice sessions of the Grand Prix weekend: the first two free practice sessions were cancelled due to the thick fog above the track.

Should Stroll not be able to participate in qualifying either, there is no immediate replacement for the Canadian. Last time a driver from Racing Point was unable to race, Nico Hulkenberg was allowed to fill in. Perez was tested positive for the coronavirus at the time.

Update 12.45h (10/10) | Hulkenberg arrived at the Nürburgring, possibly in action

Nico Hülkenberg has arrived at the Nürburgring. The German will be ready to replace Lance Stroll, who has reported sick for the third free practice session of the Eifel Grand Prix. If he is not fit enough for qualifying, The Hulk will be allowed to take over.

The German driver will not be allowed on the track yet as he is still awaiting his Covid-19 test. Less than an hour after it was announced that Stroll was ill, Hulkenberg had already arrived: he had planned some small activities in the afternoon, so he was already on his way.
