Ricciardo: "Verstappen taught me more technical thinking"

Daniel Ricciardo says he learned from Max Verstappen in his time at Red Bull Racing. The Australian had been with the Austrian team for a number of years when the Dutchman entered Red Bull in Barcelona and immediately won his first race. "That really is a nightmare for a teammate," says Ricciardo at F1-Insider.
The site calls Verstappen the 'young wild horse' and Ricciardo the 'experienced stallion' when the Dutchman joined Red Bull. "That was my first experience in that direction", Ricciardo responds. "Before that, I was always the wild horse. Verstappen immediately won his first race for Red Bull. A real nightmare for a teammate", Ricciardo says.
"But, I stayed calm and immediately wanted to find a way to stay ahead of him. It was clear that Max is extraordinarily talented and special." Because the Limburger knew exactly what he wanted, Ricciardo tried to find some kind of balance for himself. "Not only was he fast, but he also had a lot of supporters behind him", he says.
Ricciardo: "Max is so incredibly fast"
The Australian says he could learn from Verstappen because he always wanted to go to the extreme and be the fastest. "Max is so incredibly fast by nature," he says. "I had to deal with that first. But he also taught me to think more technically. I learned to focus more on myself and to do my thing". (Photo: Red Bull Content Pool / Getty Images)
