Renault is experiencing an upturn in the 2020 season. Where the French team was particularly disappointing the first year that Daniel Ricciardo rode for them, this year they are again at the front of the midfield. Despite the rebound, the Australian has no doubts about his transfer to McLaren.
"With all due respect to Renault, I don't regret it at all," reports the smiling former Red Bull Racing driver in conversation with Motorsport-Total. However, he is grateful that the team is giving him the opportunity to fight for serious points this year: "Am I satisfied with the current shape of the team? Of course I am."
Ricciardo knows that performance always counts, even when you're not driving for a top team: "Every race in Formula 1 is important. Every chance I get, I seize it with both hands. I'm happy that things are moving forward and I certainly still feel part of the team. That too is important". Ricciardo assures Cyril Abiteboul of his full commitment: "Until the last day I will work very hard."
Ricciardo with a request to Verstappen and Mercedes
Ricciardo also indicates that Max Verstappen and Mercedes are out of range: "I don't want to sound pessimistic, but when it comes to race speed we're just not there. So we need a few reliability problems at the front or a chaotic first round".
"If somebody had a dropout while we were fourth, that would be perfect, of course. I'm not saying no to that", he concludes grinning to the German medium. So a friendly request to the top three it is then. (Photo: Red Bull Content Pool/Getty Images)
