Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon are satisfied with their fifth and seventh places on the grid for the Russian Grand Prix. Renault is showing good results at Sochi, which the Australian and Frenchman seem to appreciate. Ricciardo says there would have been even more.
"All in all, I'm happy with fifth place for the race," Ricciardo looks back on qualifying. "I knew we weren't competing for pole position, but after the Q2 lap it felt like third or fourth place was within reach. That lap in Q2 was perfect, so I knew it was going to be difficult to improve on that."
Ricciardo couldn't improve in the end. "I struggled a bit more in Q3 and probably could have improved my time, but I'm happy with where we ended up. I haven't normally been strong on this track, so being fast all weekend has been positive. We can definitely race tomorrow, so it should be fun," Ricciardo concluded.
Ocon: "We've shown great pace"
"I think it's a very decent result today", Ocon is excited. "We showed great pace this weekend and we are absolutely strong with a car that performed pretty well. I'm happy with the result and the car was really good in all three sessions."
Ocon is looking forward to Sunday. "All in all, we are in the race, so that's very positive. It's great to start in this position, and we can look at the cars in front of us. We're going into the mix to fight, so it's going to be interesting. I think anything is possible and we are in good shape to race," concluded Ocon.
