Sainz: "Races more spectacular without Mercedes"

McLaren driver Carlos Sainz says in an interview with Autoweek that Formula 1 would be more "spectacular" without Mercedes. The German team is currently dominating the grid. The Spaniard is constantly trying to compete for a podium finish, but at the same time knows that the current situation in Formula 1 means that the richest team always has the best chances of winning.
"It's frustrating", said Sainz. "But the way Formula 1 works today is that the team with the most money will always win". The Spaniard says he thinks it's spectacular how Mercedes uses its full potential. Lewis Hamilton won his sixth race of the nine races this season. Teammate Valtteri Bottas has only managed to win one out of these.
Mercedes leads the constructors' championship, which they can win for the seventh consecutive time. "Frankly, there are teams with similar budgets which are struggling to reach the level of Mercedes", the future Ferrari driver continues. "But that doesn't mean I don't hope Formula 1 will change."
Sainz: "Our races are always like this behind Mercedes"
"I think we could have a much more spectacular Formula 1", said Sainz. "And I think even Mercedes realized how exciting a Grand Prix can be without them", Sainz refers to the Italian Grand Prix, where Pierre Gasly scored his first podium in his Formula 1 career. "To be honest, our races are always like this behind the Mercedes", Sainz concluded. (Photo: McLaren F1 Media)
