Renault looks back on Mugello with mixed feelings: "Was a rollercoaster"

Renault was close to reaching their much needed first podium for the season today. Unfortunately, Daniel Ricciardo did not make it because Alexander Albon drove a good race in the end. The team, therefore, looks back on a race that felt like an emotional rollercoaster for them.
"I am very happy with the race today and we were so close to the podium," Ricciardo said in a press statement from the Renault team. "It was a long day with all the restarts, luckily everyone is okay in the end. For a long time today, it looked like we could get on the podium, but we couldn't get any closer than today. Bottas and Albon were simply too fast".
Cyril Abiteboul also looks at the Renault race with disappointment. Although he does get a bright spot out of it. "It's good to be disappointed with a fourth place. We believed for a long time in a podium place and the team probably deserved it. I think we did everything right today."
The only thing Abiteboul regrets is Ocon’s retirement, who dropped out with a braking problem. "We'll have to find out how. But what we are taking to the next races are the positive points. We had expected that this circuit would not suit us. Yet we made sure the car worked well. That's another indication that we can do better".
Ocon disappointed with dropping out
For Ocon this weekend meant little. He dropped out with a brake problem and saw his teammate flourish today. "At the first safety-car, brake pieces got caught in the brakes, so they caught fire at some point. In the end, we couldn't repair the car during the first red flag. I felt that we could go for good points. So far this year has been pretty crazy, there are going to be opportunities to perform". (Photo: Renault F1 Media)
