Kubica: "How smart is Verstappen remains to be seen when he gets close to a title"

Current Alfa Romeo reserve driver Robert Kubica believes the next generation has great opportunities: the Pole describes Max Verstappen as "very smart and ready to win a title."

In Brazil they almost ran right through each other on the pit lane, but the 35-year-old Kubica views the young Dutchman as a great prospect. "I think he's very smart, and certainly ready to win a title." He admires his intelligence on the track, although he does have a small comment.

"It remains to be seen how Verstappen behaves once the title is in the crosshairs. But I would bet immediately that he will eventually become champion", Kubica shares with the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Bottas or Ricciardo would have been safer choices

Verstappen's competition may come from the Italian corner in 2021, mainly from Charles Leclerc but also Carlos Sainz. He has seen the choice for the Spaniard less positively. "Sainz is a bold choice. He has never driven up front, which can be a problem if you want to get real results. Bottas or Ricciardo would have been safer to choose."

"It surprised me a bit, but I don't think that decision was made very recently. Ferrari has precise plans, and that is separate from the money. But if the relationship with Vettel was not good and did not improve, it is better to make a bold decision." (Photo: Red Bull Content Pool / Getty Images)
