Marko: "We really see ourselves as one of the favourites"

Despite Formula 1 being halted due to the coronavirus, Helmut Marko thinks that Red Bull can still be successful in 2020. According to the team's influential advisor, there has been an 'abnormal' development in the winter, with only Mercedes having built a better car than them.
"We still want to make Max Verstappen the youngest world champion", with which Marko refers to the fact that 2020 is the last season in which the Dutchman has a chance to achieve the record, which is currently still in the hands of Sebastian Vettel.
Marko thinks Mercedes is still a favourite
In conversation with Österreich, Marko says he is disappointed with the extra development period, because he thinks the RB16 could have benefited more if there was no delayed start to the season. “We really see ourselves as one of the favourites. Mercedes is better 'on paper', if you ask me. We are faster than Ferrari, they still lack speed in the corners and on the straight."
Marko thinks that Verstappen and Hamilton would fight for the championship in status quo. "But Lewis remains a favourite. He just has the better car. Yet Max's RB16 is really much better this year than what we were used to, we can be really aggressive on the track and that is different from the past years. This was also made possible by Honda. Despite Lewis' favourite role, Max does have the ability to beat him.” (Photo: Red Bull Content Pool / Getty Images)
