Amazon offers Ferrari alternative series available on 'stream only' for €42/year'

Formule 1 magazine recently unveiled more details of the alternative racing series that Ferrari could pursue with media partner Amazon if it fails to agree with the F1 regulations for 2021 and beyond. For example, Amazon wants to set up a streaming-only service that costs 42 euros per year for the user.

The costs of the promoter plan are projected to be much lower, at 10 to 12 million dollars a year. This would make it easier for them to add iconic circuits, such as Zandvoort. Plus, the Red Bull Ring, Barcelona, Hockenheim, Shanghai, Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Sukuza and Interlagos don’t have a contract with Liberty Media for beyond 2021. And if the F1 loses Ferrari, Monaco has the right to leave the series. Portimão would also like to organize the Portuguese Grand Prix, but F1's demand for 24 million dollars in fees is expensive for them. Magny-Cours would also like to return to the calendar if they have an option of lower fees.

Needless to say, teams are needed, but the crux would be to convince them they have the platform to overtake Ferrari and Mercedes. If the top two teams take their customer teams with them, the series will already have six outfits. Then only the Red Bull teams, McLaren and Renault are actually left in F1. Perhaps McLaren can be lured with a Mercedes engine and Renault can stay until its contract with F1 is over in 2024. And then nothing will be left in F1.

Finally, the new series would prefer to use more powerful engines. It could be a 1200 bhp engine with a 20,000 rpm. It is clear that there is a lot at stake and that Ferrari and Mercedes have the chance to blackmail F1 if they do not get their way. It seems that the F1 management has no choice but to agree with the technical requirements dictated by Ferrari and Mercedes.
